Opening Statement

It is critical for anyone who either runs for elected office or wants to be involved in making government run better that they must be informed. That takes time and that is my goal here. In the world of government, the art of politics should be about compromise. That takes a commitment from everyone who enjoys life here to be involved. Unfortunately, the word politics has become a negative word and its extension "politician" has become a word that means distrust and corruption. Politics is the art of compromise, not for furthering agendas. Because of this redefining the word politics, it is understandable that when someone calls themself an honest politician, they are saying they are an "honest crook." It is because they are not serving us anymore. They are serving their political agenda. It is time to return to the constitution and begin again to elect representatives as our forefathers intended. An elected representative is someone who serves and then returns to private life.

I leave you in this opening statement with a phrase I saw when I first began my career as an insurance agent.

Travel and Leisure

The number one issue people want addressed across America is how to have more travel and leisure time. It is indeed okay to want the dessert before the main course, but Americans can no longer let someone else prepare and serve the main course. It is time for Americans to once again decide what the main course is to be and serve it to themselves first.

In order to enjoy more travel and leisure, Americans must do their part to make sure the critical issues that we must address as a society are addressed fairly and with no political agendas. I will state the following over and over in this report: "Politics is the art of compromise. It is not for what it has become - for furthering activist agendas."

Federal Tax Reform

The most interesting component of an issue we as a society feel must be addressed is its visibility. The money you cannot spend on your travel and leisure because it has to go to pay income taxes upsets you. We must always remember that taxes overall are a part of a successful society and we must pay them. Additionally, the time you must spend throughout the year is mandatory for the records you need when it comes time to prepare and file your federal income tax return. It is money and time that you cannot spend on travel and leisure so you want this matter addressed.

The solution is not to eliminate the overall tax system we presently have and it is also not to put a national sales tax in place. Whether you or I like it or not, a solution will never be developed unless you have the income tax attorneys and income tax preparers (CPA's, EA's, etc.) and The IRS all buy into a workable solution. Folks, reality is that although you might like to eliminate the system entirely with a simple national sales tax, the economic upheaval by hundreds of thousands of people thrown out of work in professional offices all across America simply will not work.

Until this is addressed, there will be no solution and the present set of politicians know this. That is why they continue to cry for tax reform, preach national sales tax and it goes nowhere. They know you will vote for them because that is the easy way out and that is what you want. You want your dessert (travel and leisure time) first. Let me give you some main course food for thought.

Suppose we created a tax system (not an income tax) that gave you control over whether you filed a return or did not. If you did, the opportunity to pay lower taxes overall as you cruise through society would be available to you. If you elected to not spend the time to file an annual tax return, you would be required to pay more taxes as you consumed goods in society. It is important to understand that one key component of the design of the tax system is to move society in certain directions. For example, you cannot deduct rent but you can deduct home interest on mortgage loans. Therefore, the present income tax system motivates us to buy homes. Any reform or change in the tax system must incorporate this.

With my workable solution, the hundreds of thousands of professionals who are involved in the present tax system would still have their jobs.
