J. Dennis Wolfe, Author

“The Sick Solution – A Prescription for National Health”

Dennis started WOLFE Insurance Services after graduating from San Jose State in 1976 with a B.S. in Finance, and a Minor in Chemistry -- emphasis on Organic and Bio.  Almost immediately, he began writing healthcare benefit plans and became known for his expertise in helping both smaller, growing businesses and larger, internationally established companies develop competitively priced benefit plans.  He has designed benefit plans and administered them for a multi-national public company and an international law firm.

In 1977 Dennis began his community involvement when he created the novel idea for health fairs at local shopping malls, an idea that soon caught on all over the country.  Today they are everywhere.  For this he received the very prestigious, nationally-recognized Dublin Award from the National Association of Life Underwriters.

Throughout his career community involvement has been a signature for Dennis.  His work in Kiwanis through programs, membership and fund-raising led to a lifetime membership in Kiwanis International and the George Hixson and William Dunlap Fellows.

As Board President he saved The USO of Northern California from insolvency and turned it into a profitable entity that today thrives and supports our armed forces as they pass through The San Francisco Bay Area to parts unknown.

His political achievements are too numerous to mention.  Suffice it to say he has helped promote environmental issues, supported the family and education through international resolutions and, amazingly, with unanimously-passed CA State legislation.  He graduated from the Santa Clara Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy, served two terms on The Alameda County Grand Jury, chaired Fremont’s Charter Committee, set state law through a lawsuit that led to a precedent-setting California Supreme Court decision, and more.

His primary hobby has led to him being a Registered Speaker on the subject of professional autograph collecting.  An article was written about him in the nationally-circulated, “Autograph Collector”.  His collection of all U.S. Presidential original signatures and founding fathers is impressive to say the least.

His second hobby of music led to the creation of Ossum Possum Records, a label that attained worldwide recognition with hit songs released in the early 1990’s.  The company’s achievements were ‘ossum’ indeed, including nearly having a song nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture!

For a short time Dennis had his own local TV show which discussed the hot political issues at all levels- from local to world.  The show was called “Covalt and Wolfe…due to technical difficulties!”  It ended sadly with the sudden passing away of Buzz Covalt.

With all these accomplishments he still found time to write “The Sick Solution – A Prescription for National Health”.  It was published in 1991 and was never released to the public.  Instead, it was circulated to key committees in The House of Representatives who worked on the 1993-94 health care cost-delivery reform.  Now-retired U.S. Rep. Bill Dannemeyer called Dennis one of the deepest thinkers he had ever met.

With the passing of the COBRA Amendment in 1986, it was clear that the cost of health care was going to spiral upwards and out of control.  This financial issue - coupled with a growing trend by employers to modify company policies in such a way that would reduce or eliminate job security and benefits - fueled what was already a fast growing health care cost crisis.  Many who have read “The Sick Solution” say it is more impressive today than when it was first published in 1991.

Dennis loves to share his insights on our nation’s continuing health care cost crisis -- a subject about which he speaks with extensive authority.  The Sick Solution encapsulates a very workable solution that will maintain the American way of life.  Dennis firmly believes government-sponsored universal health care always fails because government cannot ever control human behavior through legislation.  To attempt to do so invites socialism or worse, totalitarianism.

Remember – we have a health care cost-delivery crisis because the medical community still practices medicine.

They have not perfected it!
